The Perfect Location For your Photoshoot. Johannesburg , Family Photographer.

Finding the perfect location for your family portraiture or maternity session can be a tough one, but no need to fret. I can help! I have a selection of gorgeous spots in and around Johannesburg/Pretoria that will suit exactly what you're looking for. From graffiti walls and urban jungles, to manicured gardens and beautiful tree filled parks. Keep reading to find our more.

The Modderfontien Reserve

Nestled in the heart of Modderfontien in Edenvale, this beautiful nature reserve offers gargling rivers and a beautiful dam surrounded by trees. If we're lucky, we might spot the fish eagles and their babies flying over the dam. The reserve is every Family Photographers dream! Entrance to the reserve is R50 per person, this gets us access to the picnic area. Not ideal is Winter though, the area is over run with black jacks but a winner in Summer.

Casalinga

Based in Mulderdrift, Casalinga offers beautiful lemon tree orchards, fountains, green grassy spots and even a little forest. This location is amazing for any portraiture session. Casalinga charges a venue fee of R250 per person and must be booked before shoot date. There is a R350 travel fee.

Irene Dairy Farm

Now this spot is amazing. Open wide fields and lovely black and white dairy cows(the perfect props). Located in Irene with beautiful old stables, rock walls and more, Irene Dairy farms is perfect for your session. Cover charge to access the venue is R100 per person, excluding me and There is a R450 travel fee.

Shepstone Gardens

Truly a Johannesburg Gem! Situated in Mountain View, Johannesburg this venue is so unique. The gardens and buildings are to die for. Your session will be completely perfect. Fully cared for throughout the year, so shooting here can be done anytime. This is primarily a wedding venue so bookings are essential and weekdays are mostly available. A booking can only be confirmed 1-2 weeks before the shoot. Pricing is only available once a booking is confirmed with me.

Wits University

If you are looking for something different with a mix of beautiful gardens and incredibly stunning old school Architecture then Wits is the spot. Entrance to the University is at no charge but pre-approval is required so a booking in advance is crucial.

Ducks Country Lodge

About a 40 minute drive from Edenvale, this beautiful location offers gorgeous afternoon light, a river set and stunning old buildings. Ducks Country lodge is fabulous for family, maternity or couples session. This spot is every photographers dream. Travel fee to the venue is R450 and there is no venue hire fee.

Morningside Spruit

This stunning private residential park is perfect for any shoot we have planned. Offering amazing sunrise and sunset sessions. Located in Morningside, Sandton. The park is maintained by the residents of the area and is pet friendly. There is no venue fee or travel fee to utilise this spot. This location is access controlled and requires a key to enter.

Ganico Organic Farm

Definitely one of my favourite spots in Johannesburg. Ganico is located in Muldersdrift. They offer, not only stunning orchards but also a gorgeous natural light studio. The venue charges R600 per hour session and a R350 travel fee.

Campagne Living

If you are looking for a location perfect for any shoot, Campagne Living is your best bet. With a stunning indoor atrium, gorgeous gardens, fruit trees and more. Located in Pretoria just off the N4 and about a 55 minute drive from Johannesburg. The venue requires a R700 fee per hour and a travel fee of R750 from my side.

The Lewis Family Farm

This beautiful farm is run and owned by the Lewis family. An amazing bunch of folks that offer wonderful service and an incredible location. Offering a dam filled with fish, open fields, a swing perfect for fun photographs. This venue offers animal interaction, from baby sheep to tame Alpacas. They charge R600 venue fee and the animal interactions are R350. There is a R450 travel fee.

Summer Place

Looking for an exquisite setting for your photoshoot? Summer place is the venue for you. This stunning spot is located in the heart of Hyde park. Its rose gardens, huge trees and perfect architecture has so much to offer for any photoshoot. The venue charges R2750 per hour shoot, with a minimum booking requirement of 2 hours. You will not be disappointed when booking your shoot at Summer Place.

Seasonal Location

Cosmos at Delta Park - Limited time in March only

Each year around March, Delta Park offers one of Johannesburg’s most beautiful seasonal backdrops as the cosmos flowers come into bloom. For a short window, the park is transformed with soft pinks, whites and gentle movement — a setting that feels light, romantic and wonderfully natural.

Cosmos season is fleeting, which makes it such a special option for photo sessions. It’s ideal for families, maternity sessions and couples who love a relaxed, outdoorsy feel and don’t mind a little exploring between the flowers. The open space allows children to move freely and moments to unfold naturally, without the session feeling posed or structured.

Because the cosmos only bloom for a limited time each year, availability is always weather-dependent and sessions are offered on a first-come basis during the season. If you’re drawn to soft colours, natural textures and a truly Johannesburg-specific backdrop, Cosmos at Delta Park is a beautiful seasonal choice.

Jacarandas in Johannesburg - Limited time in October & November only

For a few short weeks each year, usually around late October to November, Johannesburg turns purple as the jacaranda trees come into bloom. Pavements, parks and quiet streets are transformed into dreamy canopies of violet, creating one of the city’s most iconic seasonal moments.

Jacaranda sessions are perfect for families, couples and maternity shoots who love a soft, romantic feel with a distinctly urban-Jo’burg touch. The falling petals add texture and colour without needing elaborate setups, allowing the focus to stay on connection, emotion and movement.

Like all seasonal locations, jacarandas are weather-dependent and brief. Peak bloom can vary slightly from year to year, which means flexibility is key when booking. But when the timing is right, jacaranda season offers a truly magical backdrop that feels both nostalgic and unmistakably Johannesburg.
